I really like your style and think it would lend itself to a striking comic. You're good at expression, as well as individual, recognisable character and creature designs, and you have attention and patience for detail.
The tricky aspect with comic art I think is the visual storytelling. Seeing how you don't only have pinups, but also illustrations showing scenes in your gallery, you're not starting from zero there, either.
Mind, have you considered doing a shorter comic instead of a graphic novel first? It would be easier to finish (which I think would be nice even if you didn't want to draw another comic, both for readers and for you... I may be projecting here; abandoned projects tend to weight on my conscience)
Besides, when you apply what you learned there to a later project, you might have less of a "the first pages look rather different from the later ones"-effect.
